Obituary of Mauro Marino

MARINO, Mauro Passed away suddenly on Friday, July 17, 2015 in his 67th year. Beloved husband of 42 years to Dora. Loving father of Nico (Joya), Lia (Lou) Stranges and Marco (Maryann). The proudest Nonno of Matthew, Ava, Ella, Sophie, Luca and Mila. Cherished little brother of Nick (Rita). Much loved uncle of Josie (Mario) Visocchi, Antonella Vallescura, Lawrence (Nicole) Marino and Luca (Lisa) Vallescura. Brother-in-law to Emiliana (the late Rocco) Vallescura. Predeceased by his parents Domenico and Iolanda Marino. Mauro was a teacher with the DSBN for 30 years, where he taught History, Italian and coached soccer at Thorold Secondary School for 4 years and Eastdale Secondary School for 26 years before retiring in 2003. He always had a passion for Italian culture, and this culminated in a book he published entitled "Il Bel Paese." This book served as a reminder to younger Canadian-Italian generations of their heritage. Mauro was a proud member of Club Roma and an original member of the Club Roma Choir, which began 25 years ago. Mauro loved music, the outdoors, cycling, Juventus and playing his accordion. Above all else, his passion was his wife, his children and grandchildren. Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Monday, July 20 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers will be recited on Monday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Alfred's Church, 272 Vine St., St. Catharines. Cremation to follow.
