Obituary of Geoffrey "Geoff" Haigh Fawcett
FAWCETT (LTI), Geoffrey Haigh
Born August 11, 1935
Geoffrey (Geoff) passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2015 with his wife, Jean, of 52 years and three beautiful daughters Louise Glenfield, Lorna (Keith) Lampman and Sarah (Tony) Ledda by his side. A loving husband, father and grandparent, Geoff will be missed by his four loving grandchildren Jacob, Danielle, Emily and Allison. He is survived by his three sisters Pat, Judy and Susan (Roy), five nieces Alison P, Jennifer, Susan, Helen, Rachel and nephews David and Simon. Geoff was predeceased by his parents John Thomas and Sarah and also by his brothers-in-law Joe and Brian. Geoff dedicated his professional career to textiles, earning numerous achievements including his LTI- one of the most prestigious designations in the field. Much of his career was spent right here in Niagara, where he spent 27 years at Lincoln Fabrics. Geoff, along with Chung Lie Ting and the late Dave Howes were heavily involved and credited with the development and production of Kevlar, a material used in bulletproof vests, bomb blankets, and CADPAT gear to protect our armed forces and police personnel, among others. When Geoff wasn't spending his personal time with family, he was on the cricket pitch or golfing. Born in England, Geoff was a renowned "bowler" and was invited to play for the professional Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Geoff was passionate about everything he was involved in and never let go of that passion throughout his last days. Geoffrey was always surrounded by friends and family who loved him dearly and he will be greatly missed. Geoffrey's family would like to extend their gratitude to everyone who has sent regards and sympathy throughout this difficult time. Friends are invited to Geoff's visitation at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Friday, July 24, 2015 from 2-4 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Geoff's Life at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be given to the NHS- St. Catharines Site- CCU or the Palliative Care Unit.
