Obituary of John Thomas Schenck

Schenck, John Thomas - Died peacefully with his family by his side at Hospice Niagara at 82 years of age. He was survived by his loving wife Marina (nee Reilly) and his children Louanne (Ken) Campbell, John (Donna), Elizabeth (Rob) Harold, and Joseph (Tracey). Papa to Kate, Emily, Jack, Rachel, Matthew, Jacob, Sam and Jonah.Brother to Mary, Sr. Anne (CSJ), Gretchen, Joanne, and Margaret. Fondly remembered by his cousin and friend the Most Reverend John A. O'Mara and many other family members. Predeceased by his brother Louis. John was a third generation owner of Schenck Farms and Greenhouses and a member of the St. Catharines Old Boys Lacrosse Association. He loved his Wednesday night poker games and his old Western movies. A special thanks to Hospice Niagara, CCAC and the entire staff at the NHS-St. Catharines Site. Family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Vigil Prayers will be held in the funeral home on Sunday at 3:30 pm. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Star of the Sea Church on Monday at 11 am, 34 Elgin Street, with cremation to follow. Memorial donations to Hospice Niagara or the St. Catharines Old Boys Lacrosse Association would be appreciated by the family. Poet Raymond Carver asks: And did you get what you wanted from this life, even so? I did. And what did you want? To call myself beloved, to feel myself beloved on the earth.
