Obituary of John Snowling
SNOWLING, John
The St. Catharines community is shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of John Snowling on Sept. 10, 2015 at the age of 68. Predeceased by his first wife "Linda" in 1979, he was an adoring husband to Janet Johnston, loving father to Lesley Snowling, and dear brother of Susan Brooks.
His unexpected transition to the non-physical after a brief illness leaves behind a long list of ways that John contributed to this community. He was the founder and CEO of "The Establishment" (a popular jeans store in the '70's); he was a member of the St. Catharines Downtown Association; a former alderman on city council; a former president of the grape and wine festival; an active member for 30 years and past president of the Rotary Club of St. Catharines and an accomplished real estate sales representative with Kruty Reality that later became part of Royal Lepage, also for 30 years- a career that caused him to add to his ever expanding group of clients that were, not only well served by his negotiating prowess, but were treated to a personal connection with him as a result of his sincere concern for others. His desire to give back also inspired him to be a director on the Board of the Niagara Association of Realtors and teach real estate courses through OREA. A truly compassionate man, John never hesitated to extend himself to others in need: that included his immediate family, his friends, his co-workers, and strangers. He was a familiar sight in Port Dalhousie on his sailboat in the summer, and as a former safety patroller at Holiday Valley, on the ski hills in the winter. We will all miss his uplifting, positive outlook on life, his engaging smile and the wink that usually followed.
As per John's wishes, cremation has taken place. John's family welcomes friends for a time of gathering at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place at First Grantham United Church on Friday, Sept 18, at 2 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to Jazz FM 91.1, Community Care or the Rotary Club of St. Catharines.
