Obituary of William Dunsmore Dickson
DICKSON, William Dunsmore "Bill"
After a long and fulfilling life, Bill passed away peacefully and comfortably with family and friends by his side on Friday, December 11, 2015 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of the late Mary (1989). Dear father of Donna of BC and the late Stephen (1999) and his wife Mary-Jane. Loving Gramps of Mike (Kaori), Tayler and Jake and Great-Gramps of Hana, Jason, Makayla, Maddie, Cameron & Tatum. Also remembered by Cheryl.
Bill worked at General Motors as a General Supervisor - Plant Maintenance. He was a proud Councillor representing Port Dalhousie Ward for the City of St. Catharines (1970-1978) and was also a Council Member of the Niagara Region (1978-1988). In 1974, Bill was the recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award from the JayCees. He had a passion for community engagement and involvement through coaching baseball and hockey, and was an active member in numerous organizations and committees within the region. Bill's leisure pursuits included his love of sports, golfing, music, cribbage, singing, traveling, reading, boating, spirituality, volunteering and above all else, spending time with his family. He was a proud Scotsman, compassionate, humourous, strong-willed, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many.
Visitation will take place at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Wednesday, December 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of Bill's life will be held on Thursday, December 17 at 1:30 p.m. at St. George's Anglican Church, 83 Church St., St. Catharines. Interment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, after which the celebration will continue at the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club, 70 Westchester Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society - Niagara Region, Friends of Linhaven, St. George's Anglican Church or Canadian Tire Jumpstart.
