Obituary of Mila Kobzan
KOBZAN, Mila
Peacefully passed away at Garden City Manor on December 30, 2015, at the age of 87. Mila has been reunited with her beloved husband Iwan (2010). Forever loved mother of Anna (Scott) Macivor and Maryann (Dr. Peter) Diakow. Loving Baba of Christopher (Anna), Kathryn (Greg), Olenka (Mike), Peter (Lauren) and Natalie. Proud great-grandmother of Ivan James Macivor. Also survived by her sister-in-law, Zennia Dankewycz, cousin, Mila Vyhtor and also by many nieces and nephews in Canada and the US. Mila was predeceased by her brother Ivan Dankewycz, sister, Katyryna Kolubinski and brother-in-law, Dan Kolubinski. Mila was born in Ukraine and immigrated to Canada to join her husband in the mining town of South Porcupine, Ontario. Her early years in Canada focused on creating a loving home for her family and contributing to the development of the Ukrainian community in Timmins, Ontario. In 1953 she was a founding member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League Canada (UCWLC) at St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Timmins. Mila continued to be active in UCWLC at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church when she moved with her family to St. Catharines in 1966. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed making preserves, sewing and embroidery as well as baking traditional Ukrainian wedding bread. Mila loved music and dancing with her loving husband, Iwan. She was a kind and loving Baba to her grandchildren and she loved them dearly. Special thanks to the staff at Garden City Manor for their care and kindness.
