Obituary of Gerald Sandler

SANDLER, Gerald Louis of St. Catharines, Ontario passed away peacefully on February 1, 2016, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine Sandler. Loving father of Jeffrey Sandler (Cathleen Philip), Hanna Sandler (Brent Rogers) and Jane Riley (John Riley) and loving Papa to Evan and Averell Riley. Gerald was born on September 13, 1925 in Walkerton, Ontario. After serving in the Royal Canadian Navy in WW2, he attended the University of Toronto and graduated as a Professional Engineer. Following a move to Windsor, Ontario he married Geraldine Corbett and their three children were born. Gerald attended the University of Michigan and obtained his MBA. He started his business career in manufacturing engineering with Ford Motor Company and ended as VP Finance with Atlas Steel in Welland. Gerald spent 29 very happy years in retirement. Gerry and Gerri spent most winters with friends in Siesta Key, Florida. He enjoyed golf, curling and tennis. He also loved playing bridge and playing cribbage with his buddies, and all activities that involved his family and many friends. Gerald was a member of the Financial Executives Institute of Canada where he served a term as the Hamilton Chapter President. He volunteered on the Advisory Board of the Hotel Dieu Hospital in St. Catharines for twenty years and served as Chairman for five years. In accordance with Gerry's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive guests at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines, on Thursday February 4, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Julia Roman Catholic Church, 251 Glenridge Ave., St. Catharines at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2016. An Inurnment will take place at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Hwy 20, Fonthill following the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Center in Gerald's name would be appreciated.
