Sorry to hear of Bob's passing. We spent many years together in Sea Cadets, and Bob was my Best Man at my wedding in 1965. We lost touch over the years.

Cousin Bob, I miss you.
I have wonderful memories of meeting up with you at the highland games and watching you march by in the local parades. You were an impressive figure in your kilt.
Summers in our teens were always fun at your family home on Parnell Road.
I look forward to seeing Heather at the memorial on June 11th.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Love Brenda and Emmett

What a wonderful photo. I see his face still shining, as I remember it from my childhood. Cousin Bobbie was like a prince to me, looking up at him as a child. Kind and playful. I am so pleased that he was a piper like my dad (Harry). Bob, a beautiful man. My condolences to all who loved him.

We met in Grade 9, more specifically when we joined Sea Cadets at Grantham High School. We hit it off ( perhaps my Glasgow brogue helped) and became fast friends into our 30s.. Bob visited me the last time in Coquitlam BC in 1980 as did Heather.
In cadets we learned to sail and we spent many after-school sessions on the rifle range in the school basement. We chummed with Gaele Smith and Norm Lloyd as the more enthusiastic cadets. Many a Saturday night saw a rum or two appreciated by the 4 of us as we went through our late teens.
Bob has a great balance between the discipline he needed to succeed at languages, piping and cadet leadership and have the affability to meet people easily and wander around the 2 Germanys like a native son.
As we scattered across the country I lost contact with Bob - my loss, but he will always have a special warm spot in my mind. Sincere condolences to Heather and all of her family and to Bob's close friend Rory....God speed old Friend!

This photo taken July 1958 on HMCS Quebec in Sidney NS. Bob is in the top row to the right of the centre gun barrel. John Allan is holding the life ring on the left with Gaele Smith holding the right-side life ring. Norm Lloyd is 2nd row, 3rd from the left. The officer is Peter Lannon with whom we all held a great friendship as we moved through life.

Grade 6 trip to Camp Wasaahbun, 1982. Who can forget waking to the early morning sound of the bagpipes? Remembering a firm yet kind and encouraging teacher. May family and friends find comfort during their time of sorrow.

Bob and I were good friends during the Sea Cadet years at Grantham High School and our friendship carried on into our university days at McMaster. Unfortunately,we drifted apart as time went by and never did reconnect, a fact that I deeply regret. He was a most interesting man and a great friend at the time.
To Heather, Rory and all of Bob's extended family I offer my heartfelt condolences.

Bob and friends from sea cadets after they won a shooting competition. Bob is third from the right. His irrepressible smile was present even back then. I think the picture was taken around 1959 at Grantham High School.

Mr. MacLellan was also my teacher at both Lincoln Centennial and Scottlea schools back in the 80's. He always had interesting stories and experiences to share and his classes were never boring. He challenged us and encouraged us to challenge ourselves. I have fond memories of him coming to school in his kilt and treating us to his bagpipe music. I also will not forget his homemade stick with the cement ball at the end. It was sort of a joke but I do remember him rapping on desks of unsuspecting students who were distracted talking while he was teaching. The noise of the thing would cause us to jump out of our skins and then we always had a good laugh at the 'talker' usually much to their embarrassment! I began teaching the year that Mr. MacLellan retired. I hadn't seen him for years and would have been surprised to learn that he even remembered me... but that September as I entered my new classroom filled with jitters, the principal of the school came down and said these boxes were delivered for you. I wondered who they could possibly be from and when I opened them up there was a very nice, encouraging note from Mr. MacLellan. It turns out he had just retired and seen my name on the hire list. He sent me a bunch of his teaching materials and they came in very handy those first few years! I will always remember Mr. MacLellan's kindness, intelligence and wonderful sense of humour. I hope he is somewhere peaceful and interesting playing his beloved bagpipes looking down on all of us. May he rest in peace.

Mr. MacLellan was my French teacher and homeroom teacher at Lincoln Centennial school and at Scottlea Public School.
He will be missed by the many students whose lives he touched being an educator.
Thank you for being my teacher.
