Obituary of Joseph Emile Gallant
GALLANT, Joseph (Joe) Emile ~ It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Joe on Tuesday October 25, 2011 at the Millennium Trail Manor. Surrounded by his children, Joe peacefully left his loved ones to be reunited with his wonderful wife of 53 years, Shirley (2006). Joe was a much loved father to Fr. Randy Gallant, Kevin and Nina Gallant and Lori and Joe Lee. Joe was the loving and admired papa to Rylan, Carter and Tayissa. Joe is also survived by his sister Mary Goulet, sister in laws Norma Burse, Hilda Konkle and Blanche Konkle, brother in laws Allan North and Clarence Konkle and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and in laws, Emile and Annie Gallant, Clarence and Jean Konkle and his step mother Adrienne Gallant, sister Madeline Mackenzie, sister in law Mary North, brother in laws Raymond Goulet, Morris Mackenzie, Albert Konkle and Charlie Burse. Joe was a Product Engineer at Thompson Products (TRW Canada) for 33 years before retiring in 1991. Upon retiring Joe enjoyed traveling with his wife, golfing with his buddies and curling at the St. Catharines Curling Club. He was a member of the TP Old Guards, an usher and minister of the eucharist at St. Denis Church and a 2nd degree Knights of Columbus Council 1394. Joe will be greatly missed by his family and so many wonderful friends.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, love and support during this difficult journey. Joe lived for a year and a half at The Heatherwoods Retirement Home where he enjoyed spending time and sharing moments with his friend Sue and all the wonderful and supportive residence and staff. A special thank you to the nurses and support staff on Elgin and Stamford floors at the Millennium Trail Manor, the compassion and care extended to our Dad was greatly appreciated.
Joe is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines until Tuesday at 10:30am. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church at 11am with cremation to follow. Visiting hours Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Vigil prayers will be celebrated in the funeral home on Sunday at 8:30pm. Donations can be made to St. Michael†™s Church Building Fund (Tree of Life) Fort Erie or the Alzheimers Society (Niagara Chapter).
