Obituary of Sophia Kanakis

KANAKIS, Sophia Passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, August 28th at the age of 68. Loving wife of 48 years of Peter and much loved mother of Soula (Jack) Pavlakos and Nick (Joelle). She was the adored Yiayia of Katerina, Zoi, Steven and Maggie. Cherished sister of Peter (Toula) Korinis, Katina (Bill) Bekiaris and Stratis (Jenny) Korinis, and sister in law of Vasiliki (the late Stellios) Gelasakis, Theodore (Mary) Canakis, the late Terry (Poppy) Kanakis and Dimitra (John) Kourmoulakis. Sophia will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by her parents Stavroula and George Korinis, and her in laws Nikolas and Chrisi Kanakis. Sophia's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Thursday, September 1st from 2-4pm and 7-9pm with a prayer service taking place in the funeral home on Thursday at 7:30pm. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, 585 Niagara Street on Friday, September 2nd at 10am. Burial to follow in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated by the family.
