Obituary of Steven Pettes

PETTES, Steven Passed away peacefully on Monday, August 29, 2016 in his 84th year, after a short illness. Loving father of Alexander (Tammy), Julia, and Natasha (Joe). Proud grandfather to Tabitha, Nicole, Thomas, Fiona, Sophia and Vienna. Dear brother of Gloria and Marika. Also fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by sisters Valerie, Vilma (Boby) and Elizabeth. Steven was born in Budapest and came to Canada in 1948, where he soon began his long career, following his life’s passion of performing and teaching instrumental music. He tirelessly performed with many orchestras and ensembles, and with many local churches, including the Cathedral, for over 25 years. Steven was a prominent music teacher for many years with the Lincoln County Board of Education, and inspired a generation of young players. All who knew him professionally knew that he always gave his best, and demanded the best of others. The family wishes to express gratitude to dear friends Valerie and Louise, whose selflessness and loyalty over many years but especially of late, have contributed greatly to Steven’s life. In keeping with Steven’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Sunday, September 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria, 3 Lyman Street, St. Catharines on Monday, September 12 at 10:30 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
