Obituary of Garabed (Garo) Izmirian

IZMIRIAN, Garabed (Garo)- Passed away peacefully in St. Catharines on Thursday October 6th in his 88th year. He was born in Anjar Lebanon May 8th 1929. Beloved husband of Marie (Ghougassian) for 62 years and proud father of his three daughters Liz (Sandro Ballarin), Susie, Helen (John Spadafora) Cherished Baboug of Mathew and Alexandra. Loving brother of Alice and Haig and predeceased by Mariam, Sarkis and Yesahi. Garo was a retiree of General Motors and spent his golden years as an avid gardener, fisherman and woodworker. Known as a leader in the Armenian community and a member of the ARF, he was affectionately called the "Chief" by his fellow members. He will be remembered for his warm smile, passion for family and friends and for the time spent at family dinners. His warmth and hospitality touched his many nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Hameed and team at St. Catharines General for their compassion and care. Visitation will be held on Sunday October 9th at GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines, Ontario from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm . Funeral Mass to be held on Tuesday, October 11th at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial at Victoria Lawn Cemetery to follow. Celebration of life to follow at Holiday Inn, Ontario Street , St. Catharines at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Paul Armenian Apostolic Church.
