Obituary of Peter Laughlin

LAUGHLIN, Peter Peter Laughlin, caring husband, much loved father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Peter leaves behind his wife Marie, and children Marie (Joe), Anne, Claire, Andrew (Nadine) and Suzanne (Jeff) as well as his grandchildren Andrew (Caroline), Lisa (Ryan), Michael, David, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Erin and Zachary and his only great grandchild, Nicholas. Peter emigrated from Scotland in March 1968 and was joined by his family that July. He spent the rest of his life in St. Catharines where he worked as an electrician at Abitibi (Fraser) Paper. He was an active participant in the church as an usher, a member of the choir and the Knights of Columbus. Upon his retirement he joined the YMCA, where he spent many wonderful years with friends doing Aquafit and more importantly the coffee club that followed. Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Sunday, January 15 from 2-4 and 6:30-8:30 p.m. Vigil prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, 34 Elgin St., St. Catharines on Monday, January 16 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation or Shaver Rehabilitation Hospital. Thanks to the wonderful staff of St. Catharines General Hospital, Henley House and Royal Henley who cared for Peter so graciously over the latter years of his life. His sense of humour and smile will live forever.
