First memory that came to mind was riley bolting it down a huge hill on his long board only for him to get speed wobble and fall. He was absolutely fearless. He taught me how to meditate. Introduced to my favourite quote. Got me into painting which I do frequently. I could go on. Thinking about you. Love to his family and friends.

My first real interaction with Riley was on March 14, 2016 on campus in the Math Lounge where he used to frequent. On this particular day he had brought a strawberry rhubarb pie for everyone to share in the celebration of Pi Day. I still remember him eating pie in one hand and a piece of chalk in the other as he had been explaining some pretty complicated physics on the chalkboard. That memory has stuck with me because I was so touched by his simple gesture of bringing a pie to share. That’s just the kind of person he was. Three years have passed and I still think about him every time I eat strawberry rhubarb pie. Riley’s passing affected me a lot, I just wish I could have my friend back and think of him so often.

I have not been able to gather the courage or face the reality that my great friend Riley is not here. This event shook me drastically last year to a point of mental deterioration. I am so sorry for this loss. I always remember the times when we would meditate together. Riley was always smiling and joyous. I have experienced Mental illness in the past and just wish for him to be joyous wherever he is! He is a brother to me and I know he is looking over us and eternally still with us always! I apologize for not writing earlier. I did not have the strength and was not in the state to say anything. My condolences to the entire family.

It is with great sadness that I read of Riley's passing. I worked in Physics during Rileys 1st and 2nd year and always enjoyed his visits to my office. He was always so very nice, kind, funny and always had a group of people around him. Riley had such a positive outlook on life and worked very hard at his studies. I will always remember Riley's generous, caring demeanour and am so grateful to have known such a great man. My condolences to each and everyone of Riley's family.

From a 21-year old Canadian who has suffered from many mental illnesses (including depression and suicidal ideation) for their entire life, I want to extend my sincerest condolences; I did not know Riley, but he must have been a very strong soul to have survived for so long in spite of whatever struggles he faced.
Losing a family member is never easy, especially when it is one so young. Nobody should ever have to say goodbye forever to their son or daughter. I hope that, in time, you can remember his memory fondly without heartbreak and cherish the good times that you shared and perhaps extend the kindness and gentleness he had towards others who might be suffering from their own demons.
I'm saddened that he felt he no longer was able to continue fighting, but I hope that now he has found peace and happiness and that when it is your time to pass on, you are all reunited once again.
All of my love and support to the Lynch family.

There are not enough words in this world that can explain how much I miss Riley. I have only known him for a little less than a year, but I feel as if I have known him my entire life. In the short time that I have known him he taught me to always look on the bright side in life and to always love everyone. He always encouraged me to chase my dreams and to not be afraid of anything that crosses my path. He had such a beautiful soul and a kind heart, and I will be forever thankful for the times that I got to spend with him. My prayers are with his family and friends through this difficult time <3

I've been trying to write something for three days now, but couldn't because it did not feel right, I did not believe that my dearest friend Riley had passed away. However as hard as it is to write this, it is something that I must do for him. It was thanks to our mutual friend John that I've met Riley, right off the bat I knew that he was the exact opposite of me and I would not get along with him. He had a very positive outlook in life opposed to my pessimistic outlook,he always had this grin showing off the gap between his front teeth opposite to my frown. He was very outgoing and social which cancelled out my secluded personality. He saw the best in people while I saw the worst, he was very charismatic and I was very awkward. In summary we were like oil and water and his happiness repulsed me at first. But despite our differences we became very close friends, we became best of friends.I would come down from north residence to east almost every day in first year just to hang out with him. He was the first person I went out to party with, he was the first person I've played beer pong with, and we would destroy everyone that opposed us.I'm not kidding we were very good at it. It was with no question that when we moved out of residence that we would get a house together, which we did and our friendship continued. However after he moved out from our house last year we grew distant and we started seeing each other rarely. If I could go back in time I would have tried to spend more time with him during our last year together, but I cannot. I never thanked him for the changes he caused on me, he helped me get out of my shell and is the reason the man I am right now. I've never realized the impact he had on my life, on my personality, up until his passing. He was able to change that pessimist I've mentioned before into a much better person. I now know how it feels to lose a close friend; the pain, the denial and the shock, all of it hitting you with a single phone call; like a pebble getting hit with an array of ocean waves. But what I'm feeling is nowhere close to losing a grandson, a nephew, a brother... a son. No parent should experience such a loss. It is with that I have to end this letter, I could write about Riley indefinitely since words couldn't be enough to describe his generosity. I wish that I could have my friend back,my prayers and thoughts with the family.

I feel very fortunate to have had Riley as a dear friend of my son Daniel as they practically grew up together and were such close friends. Riley came to visit our house countless times over the years and joined us in laughter and dancing in those crazy kitchen parties and we'd eat and have great conversations late into the night and it always centered in the kitchen. I remember having such meaningful discussions with him and he was always so genuine and such a kind and compassionate person.

Met your dear son at the Green Gryphon Awards at Guelph University, April 8th, 2016. My daughter is a student at Guelph engineering. Her team and herself submitted and won the award for the 'Green Wall". Your son and I met in the audience area; discussed yoga and spirituality. Riley had just come from yoga. He mentioned his mom as something special...that she had a lot of spirituality. We then discussed Eckankar, a spiritual teaching my daughter and I follow. He chose to join us at the Campus Pub for a beer and pizza. My husband and I treated. I enjoyed conversing with him. He was highly intense, and definately interested in physics. He shared how he wished to continue to study. I am deeply sorry for your loss!! Your son touched me at that time; a complete stranger!! All our LOVE to you; Anne, Daniel, Gabrielle and Family.

I am very sorry and saddened to hear of Riley's passing. He was always kind to me and smiling. He lived next door to me during our first year at the University in the East Residences. I will miss hearing him yell "Yo, Kehlar!" clear across the campus when I would be amazed that he could even recognize me from such a distance. During the last College Royal, I took my cousin to see his physics display and he played with the kids while making physics fun for them as well. She told me later it had been her favourite part of the day. Riley was loved by many at the university and will always be missed.
