Predeceased by his parents Margaret (nee McClarty) and Manuel Watson. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful team at Upper Canada Lodge and to Vic and Sheri Durksen for all of their love and support. John's love of the water led him to follow in his father's footsteps. At the age of 16, he started as a deck hand. By the time he was 30 years old, he had earned his captain's papers. He sailed for Hindman Shipping, CSL and Reock during his career. In 1970, he became the youngest pilot on the Welland Canal. John retired in 1994 and spent many summers in Tobermory, travelling abroad with Marion and enjoying time spent with his grandkids.
