Obituary of Rita Jacqueline Ann Harder (nee van Gelder)
Harder, Rita (nee van Gelder) - Passed away on March 9, 2017 from complications of liver failure. This was after seven weeks of fighting in the ICU at the Toronto General Hospital at the age of 61 with her family always by her side. Incredibly devoted and loving wife to Dave for over 40 years. Caring and nurturing mother to Grant (Meaghan) and Perry. Soon to be a grandmother to her first grandchild. Cherished daughter to Nell and the late John van Gelder. Beloved sister to Henry van Gelder (Joanie Russell) and Richard (Margie) van Gelder. Special aunt to many nieces, nephews and other family members. Rita was an active volunteer of Hospice Niagara since its inception. She was a talented artist, enjoyed cooking, avid skier, but her favourite moments in life were being with her family.
Family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street on Monday between 3-7 pm. Funeral ceremony will take place on Tuesday at 11 am at the funeral home with a private family burial to take place at a later time. Memorial donations may be made to Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit - Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation, PO Box 20593 Stn Brm B, Toronto, Ontario, M7Y 3R1 in Rita's honour. In memory of Rita, our family would ask that you consider signing your organ donor card.
