Obituary of Gordon Herbert McFarlane
Peacefully on Tuesday the 28th of March at the NHS Hospital in St. Catharines with his beloved and devoted wife, Elizabeth Anne McFarlane (Parnell), at his side. Gordon's first wife Patricia predeceased him and they had two children, daughter Judith and son Gordon Jr., and their families. Gordon was born the 28th day of February 1926 in the city of St. Catharines where he continued to live and where, at the age of 17, began a long and happy association with the St. Catharines Standard newspaper from where he retired. He began his career in Advertising and retired as Vice President of The Standard. Gordon also served as President of the Executives Association of Canada. Gordon was active in many of our community services; CAA Half Century Membership was presented to him for his valued contributions to thier organization and long standing support. He enjoyed many activities and as a young boy he developed a life-long passion for many happy and fortunate animals from small cats, dogs, rabbits and horses. He loved sports and enjoyed Tennis, sailing, the cottage life and was "Master of the Foxhounds" and rode his own cherished horses to many Hunt Club events. Gordon was a good humoured and very outgoing and this personality drew all those who met him regardless of the setting nearer to him. All of his friends, his wife Elizabeth all those who loved him will miss his smile and his company and will remember him lovingly. Cremation has taken place and respecting Gordon's wishes there will be no service or funeral. A private internment to follow.
