Poynton, June Rosemary (Read)

It is with sadness that June's family announces her passing on April 26th 2017 at the age of 84. June was the loving mother of Shelley (Derek), Mark (Selena), Maureen, Stephen (Kathy), and Jennifer (Dave), as well as the grandmother of thirteen and great-grandmother of eight. She was also the beloved wife of the late Wes Poynton (1982). June was predeceased by parents Dorothy Read and Reverend Leon Read. She will be missed by her sister Dorothy Holmes and many other extended family members. At the time of her passing, June was the active president of the Niagara Peninsula Needle Arts Guild, of which she was an active member for over 30 years. All of June's achievements are too numerous to mention, from her involvement at Rodman Hall, to a sewing teacher at Thorold High. One of June's passions was historic preservation, which encompassed protecting and preserving buildings of significance.  Her talents extended to designing and building beautiful homes in St. Catharines and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Along with owning a few businesses in St. Catharines over the years, June has left a legacy in the art world.

Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton st., St. Catharines on Monday May 1st from 6-8 pm. A celebration of June's life will be held on Tuesday May 2nd  at 11am in the funeral chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Walker Family Cancer Centre.
