Obituary of Sophie Hughes

HUGHES, Sophie - Peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 30th, 2017 at the St. Catharines Hospital at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late Stewart Hughes for 62 years. Loving mother of Denis (D) and Bonnie Hughes and Dianne (the late Paul) Perron.  She was blessed with 3 grandchildren Rob ( Lori ) Hughes, Matt( Caity ) Perron, Andrea ( Jeff ) Hansen (nee Perron) and 5 great granddaughters. Sophie is predeceased by her brother John (the late Violet ) Kowalski , Walter (the late Mary) Harris, Joseph ( the late Helen) Kowalski,  and Frank Kowell and her sister in law Grace ( Dwight ) Lee and Harry ( Vonna ) Hughes.  She will be sadly missed by her dear niece Ann and her husband Greg Baker and her dear sister in law  Barbara ( Hughes) Creelman.  Nieces, nephews and many friends will certainly mourn her loss in their lives. Sophie was a member of St. Alfred Church.  A special thank you to Ann and Greg Baker for all of their loving care.  The family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL Chapel, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Friday, May 5th from 2-4p.m. & 7-9p.m. Vigil Prayers will take place on Friday at 3p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Alfred Church,  272 Vine Street, St. Catharines on Saturday, May 6th at 10a.m. Rite of Committal at Victoria Lawn Cemetery to follow. Memorial donations to the Walker Family Cancer Centre or Hospice Niagara would be appreciated by the family.
