Obituary of Nicholas (Nick) McShane
MCSHANE, Nick
It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Nick McShane on May 16, 2017 - taken from this world far too soon at the age of 35. Loving husband of Jessica, and adoring father of Gray, Weston and Ruby. Much loved son of Shelly, older brother to Emily (Marek Zaleski) and Zak (Chelsie). Also survived by his father, Les Taylor and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Favourite son-in-law to Monika, and the late Jim Johnson. Beloved brother-in-law to Jay and Kristen Johnson. Predeceased by his sister Winter-Leigh McShane (1986) and his cherished "Granny" Naomi Stewart (2004). Nick was born and raised in St. Catharines and had a love for all sports growing up, and in high school he played football for the Collegiate Saints. He also especially loved lacrosse which he played for 14+ years up to the Jr B level with the Spartans. His love of these sports forged many friendships, many of which lasted into adulthood. Nick had many friends that were like family to him, Jessica and their children. A true family man, Nick loved travelling with his family - to warmer beach locales in the winter - he and Jessica recently celebrated their 10 year anniversary in St. Lucia - but also annual trips to northern Ontario where he loved watching his children swim, play and go fishing. As an avid sports fan, he also found tremendous pride in watching his sons play hockey, and spent much of his weekends at the arena, even while undergoing dialysis treatment. Nick suffered kidney failure in 2015 - but even as his body failed him, his will to live was always strong. Nick and his family are forever grateful to the nursing staff at the Dialysis unit and Dr. Lagrotteria for their support during his 4x a week dialysis sessions at the St. Catharines Hospital. Ultimately, his heart was so big for his family and friends that it gave out and he suffered from a sudden and unexpected heart attack that claimed his life. Thank you to the paramedics and St. Catharines firefighters who tried so hard to bring him back. The family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Monday May 22 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Celebration of Life will take place at Star of the Sea Church, 34 Elgin Street, Port Dalhousie on Tuesday May 23 at 11am. Interment will follow the church service at St. John Cemetery, Port Dalhousie. Memorial donations may be made to The Kidney Foundation in Nick's name.
