Obituary of James "Desmond" Lamb
LAMB, James Desmond - Peacefully, in his 85th year in St. Catharines, Ontario on August 14th, 2017 at Linhaven Home for the Aged. Beloved husband of 51 years of Eileen (nee McGuiness). Adored father of Kevin (Kelly), Damian (Julie), Dominic (Meghan), Julie (Mike) and Paul (Ruth). Loving Granda to Owen, Anthony, Jessica, Conor, Kate, Maggie, Molly, Declan and Lily. Born in Clydebank, Scotland to Owen and Mary Lamb on October 30, 1932 and predeceased by his elder brother Peter. He was evacuated to Lennoxtown during the Clydeside Blitz where his family remained following the war. Desi loved village life in Campsie and after training as a physiotherapist in Glasgow returned there to raise his family in the idyllic valley at the foot of the Campsie Fells. At the age of 47, in keeping with his family first philosophy, he bravely moved his family to Canada, pursuing opportunity for his children at a time of economic upheaval in Scotland. Here he started all over again building one of the first private physiotherapy clinics in southern Ontario - a successful business that thrived through to his retirement in 2000, ensuring all of his children were university educated, fulfilling the dreams he carried with him to Canada. A committed Catholic, he strived to tackle poverty and injustice throughout his life, eventually becoming a founding member of his parish steering committee for Out of the Cold. Fishmonger, thoroughbred horse owner and breeder, prize winning gardener, woodworker, singer, volunteer, and above all else, family man. He lived a full life. Family and friends will be welcomed at GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., on Thursday, August 17 from 4-8pm with vigil prayers at 4:30pm. Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, August 18 at 10:30am at Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria, 3 Lyman St., St. Catharines. Rite of Committal will follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be to Out the Cold Program - Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Linhaven Home for the Aged for their care, kindness and compassion.
