Master Corporal (Retd) Hugh Woolley U.E.
Age 59 passed away in Kuwait-City, Kuwait on September 25, 2017. Hugh was born May 26, 1958 in London Ontario. He graduated from Belle River District High School, and received his B.A. and B.Ed. from Brock University. Hugh will be remembered as a dedicated, caring and inspiring teacher of students with special needs. Hugh enjoyed his teaching career in St Catharines, ON, Pine Falls, MB, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. He served with The Essex and Kent Scottish, The Lincoln and Welland Regiment and as a peacekeeper in Egypt with the United Nations Emergency Force Middle East. Hugh's passion was the military and military history and he was very proud to discover that he was descended from United Empire Loyalists. He enjoyed the company of re-enactors with whom he portrayed a soldier of the War of 1812. Hugh was a member of Palmer Lodge No. 372 A.F.& A.M., G.R.C. and appreciated the fellowship of brother freemasons whenever he was in Canada and when travelling abroad. Surviving are his mother Dr. Marian Walsh, St. Catharines, ON, brother John Walsh, Troy, MI, (Ruth) and their daughters, Jennifer Gschwender, Jennifer Amsinga and granddaughter Krista Amsinga, brother Major (Retd) Alan Woolley, (Colette), Fort Erie, ON and their daughter (Hugh’s goddaughter) Captain Leah Woolley, Halifax, NS. Two aunts also survive, Grace Hoshal, Aylmer, ON and Donna Gray, Ailsa Craig, ON. Many cousins, friends and students will miss Hugh. Predeceased by his grandparents Gordon and Ruth Gray and Harvey and Carrie Woolley, his father Alfred Woolley and stepfather John Walsh.
Visitation will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines, on Monday, October 16, 2017 from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 10-11 a.m. A Masonic Service will be held at 8 p.m. on Monday. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Funeral Home on Tuesday following visitation at 11a.m. A Burial will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery, 4501 Stanley Ave, Niagara Falls. Memorial donations may be made to The Fields of Honour Restoration Niagara Falls Cemetery Services.
