Obituary of Gerald DeRochie
De Rochie, Gerald (Duke): Peacefully on Thursday September 15, 2011 in his 82nd year, at the St. Catharines General Hospital. Beloved Husband of Mary Frances for 54 years. Loving father of Douglas (Vivian), Gordon (Rosanna), and Catherine (Andrew) Cepuch. Cherished grandpa of Marc, Patrick, Carolyn, Benjamin, Michael, and Evan. He is survived by his sisters Bernice (John) MacDonald, Barbara (Ted) Noonan, his brothers in law Bernard (Helen) MacDonell and Alexander (Huguette) MacDonell, sister in law Cheryl MacDonell as well as many nieces and nephews.Predeceased by his infant daughter Maureen, his parents Rodolphe and Cecile, and his brother Robert (June 2011)and his wife Shirley. Duke worked on the ships for a number of years on the great lakes, then for the St. Lawrence Seaway before retiring in 1990. Duke loved to fish and garden but his passion was collecting stamps and coins.
Mr. DeRochie is resting at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St. St. Catharines. Visiting Hours will be held on Saturday September 17, from 7 - 9 p.m. and Sunday September 18, from 2-4 and 7-9p.m.The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Alfred's Church 272 Vine St. at 11a.m. on Monday September 19th. The rite of Committal to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Vigil prayers will be celebrated in the funeral home on Sunday evening at 7p.m. Expressions of sympathy made to the Charity of Ones Choice would be appreciated by the family.
