Obituary of Heinz Pietsch
Sadly taken far too soon on November 12, 2017 at home in the arms of one who truly cared, loved him and only wanted the best for him always.
Loving husband to Joanne Baranek of 26 years. Cherished father to Katrina (Paul) Paradise and adored Opa of Hendrix. Survived by his mother Irmgard. Forever treasured by his enormous circle of dear friends and extended family. Predeceased by his father Hans.
Born on July 1, 1954 in Scheidegg, Germany, he immigrated to Canada at age 3 with his parents, settling in Port Dalhousie.
Memorable in his sports career that involved playing hockey and lacrosse, winning championships and giving back to lacrosse by coaching and winning the National Bantam Championships in Manitoba. Heinz was a member of the St. Catharines Rowing Alumni and the Old Boys Lacrosse Association and was honoured with the prestigious Lifetime Member Award. Heinz was also a GM Foundry baseball player and enjoyed his annual snowmobile trips and playing horseshoes in the backyard.
Heinz was a working man always holding countless jobs from a very young age to having his own small businesses along the way. His main career commenced at General Motors (St. Catharines) in 1973 where he progressed to Supervision, retiring after over 40 years of dedicated service.
He was one of a kind, larger than life, just like his heart, laugh and his hugs. He was very generous and provided for all. Always quick to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He could fix or repair anything and seemed to be invincible. He persevered throughout his life and met all his obligations. He loved to cook, loved food and was a “dancing machine”. Heinz valued good friends and family and he loved people. He will be remembered forever as a Port Boy and will be missed by all who were fortunate to know him.
Special thanks to the Juravinski Cancer Centre and Hospital, staff and Dr. Tozer.
