Obituary of Alice Gatecliff
Peacefully at the St Catharines General Hospital on Monday, December 4, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Jack Gatecliff (Sept 5, 2000) and loving mother of John and his wife Janet, of St Catharines. Alice was born in Glasgow, Scotland on January 11, 1927 to Alice & Alexander McDonald Noble. Alice and Jack met in Scotland while Jack was playing hockey for the Paisley Pirates. She came to St Catharines on May 28, 1948 on board the SS Washington and was met by her soon to be husband Jack. They were married September 18, 1948 and remained married for 52 years until Jack’s death. Alice worked for the St Catharines Standard in the proof reading department for the first few years after she arrived in Canada, leaving her job after the birth of their son, John.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St., St Catharines, on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 11am and a reception for family and friends will be held in the Kristen French Fellowship Hall immediately after. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society Canada or a charity of your choice.
