Obituary of Maria DeJonge

Maria DeJonge, born 2-19-1938 died Sunday 1-14-2018 in her 80th year. She is survived by her children Chuck (Ellen), Larry (Mary), Lisa (David), and grandchildren Andrew, Jordan, Jesse, Laura, Josh, and Ashley. She was also blessed to have two sisters, Kristyn Huige and Corrie Burgett. She was pre-deceased by her brother John.

Maria was a retired registered nurse at the Hotel Dieu. She was a longstanding member and Past President of the Catholic Women’s League and an elected member of the Catholic Niagara School District Board of Trustees. She was deeply involved in the Cursillo movement

In her final days, she was enormously grateful for the wonderful care given to her by her family and the nursing staff of the NHS. Maria lived in Heidehof for her twilight years and enjoyed the friendship of the many caring staff and the tenants.

Maria was a sports enthusiast and the biggest cheerleader for her children.

The family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 6-8pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:30am at St. Denis Church, 230 Lake Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to Rankin Cancer Run or Heidehof Retirement Home-Tenants’ Association would be appreciated by the family.
