LEE, Sherman
Passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 25, 2018. Beloved husband of Theresa “Teri” (nee LeBreton). Cherished father of Brian (Pauline), Wendy (John) House and Kevin (Pauline). Greatly loved Papa to Jack, Steven (Shivani), Amy, Kaia & Jensen (and Anne Hammerbeck).
Sherman was born in St. Thomas, Ontario but was raised in London, Ontario where he attended elementary and high school. In 1954 he graduated from the University of Western Ontario in Business Administration and immediately began articling for a degree as a Chartered Accountant. He obtained his C.A. degree and joined Revenue Canada in their district taxation office in Sudbury Ontario in 1956. He married Theresa LeBreton known as Teri in 1957. For the next ten years he worked as a field auditor travelling throughout Northern Ontario. He progressed through the ranks and in 1966 was transferred to the Thunder Bay office as their Chief of Audit.
In 1968 he was transferred to headquarters in Ottawa on their National Internal Audit staff. For the next three years he travelled from Victoria to Newfoundland performing audits on their own 28 field offices. Most of their trips lasted 3 to 4 weeks. In 1971 he was named Director of the Kingston District office becoming the youngest director of taxation office in Canada. Here he joined a curling league. In 1973 he was transferred to the St. Catharines district office where he spent the next 13 years. In 1986 he became Director of the Hamilton office (4th largest in Canada at the time) and remained in that position until he retired in 1991 following a heart attack.
During his residence in the various cities he was an active member of the local accounting association. He enjoyed golf, curling and played hockey. After retirement he was a great fan of the Blue Jays. Sherman loved to travel and he and Teri enjoyed many vacations travelling across Canada and the States.
He was a very devoted husband to Teri and father to Brian, Wendy and Kevin and Papa to Jack, Steven, Amy, Kaia, Jensen. Through his love, understanding, and example he has left his family with fond memories.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements are entrusted to the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 91 Lakeshore Road, St. Catharines on Tuesday, January 30 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception in the church hall. Memorial donations may be made to the St. John Ukrainian Catholic Church Building Fund, the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
