Edith Agnes Holowchuk (nee Read)
Born March 25, 1923, passed away at the Niagara Health System Hospital, St. Catharines, on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 having lived all 94 years of her life in the city of St. Catharines. Beloved wife for over 65 years of the late Peter (2011), both of whom were employed at General Motors for over 25 years. Loving and proud mother of her only cherished son the late Peter Sydney (2017) and mother-in-law to her special daughter-in-law the late Linda (2004), who’s early and untimely departures saddened her greatly. Predeceased by her siblings Margaret (Norton) Strong, Jim (Barbara) Read and Isobel Legge. Survived by her brother Sydney (Dorothy) Read, and her sister-in-law Olga & Paul Derii; Grandson Steve (Cheryl), grand-daughter Leah Hopkinson and great grandchildren Troy, Tiana, Paige and Hailey. Edith will be remembered and missed by nieces Elizabeth (Frank) Spoja, Barb (Rick) Kush and nephew Robert (Maureen) Strong, Linda’s sister Judy and Peter’s brother-in-law Len Warrington. Edith was a long-time active member of St. Columba Anglican Church. In her retirement, she enjoyed knitting, quilting, crafting, gardening, lawn bowling, watching sports on tv, chatting with friends, and travelling. Thanks go to the staff at the Ina Grafton and the Royal Henley Retirement Homes for the wonderful care she received during her years there. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a funeral service led by Father Will of St. Columba’s will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., at 11am., followed by an inurnment at the Victoria Lawn Cemetery, Monday, February 12, 2018. As per Edith’s wishes, memorial donations may be made to St. Columba Church or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
