Obituary of Arleen Rutka (nee Brownhill)
Rutka, Arleen (nee Brownhill) - The family sadly announces her passing on Friday March 9, 2018 in her 78th year after a courageous two year struggle with ALS. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family, which was exactly what she wanted. Loving partner of Robert Miklitch for 47 years. Cherished mother to Mike and Pat (Colin) Robinson. Beloved Grandma to Michael (Amanda) and Benjamin. Sister-in-law of Rosalie (Jim), Robert (Jean), Jim (late Catherine) and Gloria (late John). Special aunt to Karen (Bruno). Will be fondly remembered by many extended family members. Predeceased by Mike and Pat's father Richard. She was employed at Bank of Montreal for 33 years. Arleen and Bob enjoyed living at Heidelberg Village during the last few years.
Arleen was born on October 8th, 1940 in St. Catharines. When first married as a military wife, she lived in several different cities. Mike was born in North Bay and Pat in Ottawa. She eventually settled back in St., Catharines as a single parent. Mom was a fiercely independent person who worked hard to provide for her children. She was employed at the Bank of Montreal for over 30 years and retired in 1996. Arleen met Robert in 1971 and they shared their life together since that time. Upon retiring, they were able to spend time travelling and enjoyed taking cruises to different places. Mom had an incredible sense of humour and always appreciated a good joke, which helped us all cope during this time.
She loved many things including music and going to the theatre, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. We have been blessed with the time that we have had with her. We would like to thank those involved in the care of mom during her illness.
Family and friends are invited to join the Rutka family at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street, on Tuesday March 13, 2018 between 11 am to 12 pm for visiting. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 12 pm with a reception to follow that will take place in the funeral home as well. Burial will take place at Victoria Lawn Cemetery after the reception. Memorial donations may be made to ALS Society or Hospice Niagara in Arleen's memory.
