Ruth and I were "neighbours" in Ina Grafton and I enjoyed our time together. She was a wonderful lady, and so strong in spite of her ailing health.
I am out of the country, so unable to express my condolence in person. Please know that I am so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. She is now at peace. Thinking of all her family at this very difficult time.

To family of Ruth: My sincere condolences on the death of your dear Ruth. I had the privilege of knowing Ruth when she worked as a nurse at Hotel Dieu Hospital. I was inspired by her compassion, kindness and joy of life. May she rest in peace. May God bless each of you!

Deepest sympathy to all of you, my heart is heavy knowing the pain you are feeling with her passing. We were all fortunate to have wonderful parents, their warmth and love was the greatest legacy they could leave us. Aunt Ruth was so kind and thoughtful to my Mom after my Dad’s passing that thank you didn’t seem to cover it. I will always remember her hearty laughter and good nature. She brightened a room. I truly believe the 6 of them are smiling down on all of us, happy to be together again, sharing fond memories. Time does heal, as you know, but there is no one like “ our Moms”. I’m in Florida, sorry not to be there to show my respect and love for your Mom, Sheila

I just heard about her illness and shocked to see her obituary in the newspaper.
I worked with Ruth at the Hotel Dieu Hospital from time to time when I worked as a casual and she always was so pleasant to work with.
She came to our retirement lunches from the Hotel Dieu Lunches and was always smiling and so glad to see everyone.
I also saw a lot of her at St. Columbia's card parties and the Christmas Bazaar where she would be busy working.
My heartfelt sympathy to the family of Ruth knowing she will be missed so very much. May all good memories sustain you in the time to come.
Sincerely,
Muriel S mith

Sincerest condolences to David, Jim, Paul and your families on the passing of your mother.
Our mother Janet (nee Parker) Aitkens met your mother while they were both training as nurses at Hamilton General starting in 1951. This was the start of a great friendship that lasted until the passing of our own mother last year.
Ruth went West to work in Victoria in 1955 along with our mother, Marilyn (nee McKellar) Ingleby and Dorothy (nee McLeod) Ottosen. Ruth and my Mother shared an apartment during their 1 year contract in Victoria. Ruth returned to Ontario and our Mother returned much later but there was always a strong bond of friendship between the 2 women. They would write letters, call and then there were the Nurses' reunions that they so looked forward to.
Later in 1969, we stayed for a few days with Ruth, Ed and the kids and we took our first trip to Niagara Falls. For my sister Jennifer and I, this was a big trip for us farm kids that grew up 7 miles from town between London and Sarnia. Ruth and Ed reciprocated when a baseball game in Sarnia in 1971 allowed them to connect with us back at our farm.
Later still in 1977, we learned that a family cottage of ours' was just doors from where Ruth and Ed were staying up at Raven Lake (near Dorset). We planned a rendezvous so that the friends could link up and we also met the 2 Grandfathers Elliott and Woodhouse.
Our Mother moved to Guelph in 2015 and her and Ruth were in constant communication with each other again.
Over the years, Jennifer and I got to have some connections with Ruth. She was such a wonderful woman that always had such a positive demeanor. She listened intently to always understand the person's vantage point. I'm sure you feel you were so blessed to have her as your mother.
While Jennifer and I can relate to your grief as our parents are both gone, we recognize that grief really has no boundaries.
I hope this condolence provides a small measure of solace in your hour of need.
Sincerest Sympathies,
Jennifer and Trevor Aitkens

We are very sorry to hear of the news of Ruth's passing. Our thoughts are with you all at this difficult time. We were wanting to attend the service on Saturday and offer our condolences in person, but unfortunately the Senior Home we reside in has become under quarantine effective today, due to a severe flu outbreak. We are not able to leave the facility until the outbreak is contained. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.
