Obituary of Doreen Bezo
BEZO, Doreen
July 28, 1930 – June 15, 2018
Doreen passed away peacefully at home, in the presence of the family she loved and who loved her in return. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, son-in-law Gordon Ingram and grandsons Greggory Bezo and Robert Vander Valk. Survived by her five children Linda (Ed) Smith), Darlene Ingram, Randy Bezo (Shi Sun), Joann Vidican (Peter) and Neta Vander Valk (John); her nine grandchildren Shannon Ingram (Paul), Amber Boutilier (Kurt), Steven Ingram, Ashley Ingram (Matt), Kelly Bezo (Lloyd), Angela Strazzeri (Charlie), Jamie Cavalleri (Fabio), Jennifer (Kurt) Vander Valk, Melanie Vander Valk (Craig); her nine great grandchildren Joel Ingram, Myles Ingram, Taya Marinic, Evangelina Strazzeri, Isabella Strazzeri, Baily Stewart, Brooklyn Brown, Johnathon Vander Valk and Tia Hopper. Her loss is also mourned by her brother Nick (Marge), sisters Eleanor Gorda and Anne Muir, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In 1948, Doreen Burlack married Joe Bezo after a six week whirlwind romance. In 1953, Joe came to Ontario to find work in the factories of St. Catharines. Doreen followed a few months later on the train, accompanied only by two toddlers, Linda and Darlene, and a baby (Randy). Within the next two years Joann and Neta were born. Over the years they hosted a steady stream of family from Manitoba who transitioned to Ontario. Most notable were his brother Eric, his sister Diane, cousins Verna and Marie, and nieces Valdeen and Doreen. We will never forget watching in awe as our cousin Rodney in his teens ate a whole dozen eggs for breakfast. Doreen’s love, guidance and generosity, sharing what little she had, endeared her to everyone and set an example for three generations that were left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life.
Special thanks to Doreen’s nurses Merrick and Alex, Dr. Torrigian and Dr. Adzich, PSW workers Petronella and Luz and especially Heather Whitworth who attended our frantic calls day and night.
At her request, there will be no public visitation or funeral. A family service has already taken place. Details were entrusted to the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 905-937-4444. If desired, donations may be made to Hospice Niagara.
