Obituary of Helmut Jurgens

JURGENS, Helmut

Gone to glory on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Elfriede (nee Wulff) of 62 years. He leaves behind his loving children Donna (Ben) Corfield, Richard (Diane Gosselin) and Heidi (Rob) Gula. Cherished Grandpa to Carrie, Sarah, Benjamin and Zachary and Opa to Dante, Liam, Aubrey and Raina. He will be dearly missed by his brother-in-law Karl Wulff.

Helmut was an avid adventurer. He crossed the Atlantic Ocean from Germany to Canada at the young age of 21. Alone and not knowing the language, he travelled across Canada until he settled in St. Catharines where he found the love of his life, Freda. Helmut loved music. He loved to sing and was in the church choir and brass band, playing his beloved French horn for the glory of God. Helmut had an esteemed career at General Motors for 35.5 years; he started as a Pattern Maker and retired as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer. Helmut was a Founding and Honourary Member of Club Heidelberg for 66 years. With his passion for travel, Helmut’s family was blessed with many experiences to see and discover new places. Helmut will forever be remembered for his beautiful singing voice, generous loving heart, and his infectious smile. We will cherish the memories, Until we meet again…

The family would like to thank the wonderful Doctors and Nurses in the NHS- St. Catharines Site’s ICU for all their care and compassion. In accordance with Helmut’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines, on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. as well as at Grace Lutheran Church, 213 Linwell Rd., St. Catharines on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 10-11 a.m. A Funeral Service will follow visitation on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the church. A private family Inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Lutheran Church.
