Obituary of John Alfred Stockwell
STOCKWELL, John Alfred - John was called to be with God. He went peacefully as his beloved family held his hands, on Monday, September 17th, 2018 at the Welland Hospital at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Nicole, who was the love of his life for 57 years. Cherished father of Diane (Rob) Lamontagne, Lynda (John Reich) Stockwell and Kim (Rick) Jesik. Loving Pappy of Christina, Jeffrey, Erika, Steven, Blake, Alyssa and Noah. Great Pappy of Felix. He will be sadly missed by his brother William Stockwell and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Guy (Louise) Charpentier, Claude (Rita) Charpentier, Claire (Vern) Smith and Alain (Carole) Charpentier. John will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by his parents Jack and Theresa, his sisters Theresa and Ginger and his sister-in-law Lise (Don) James. John was employed for 36 years at St. Catharines Hydro. He was a proud resident of Port Dalhousie and a devoted member of Star of the Sea Church. Nothing brought John greater joy than his wife and family sharing stories and laughter around the kitchen table. He was always known for his quick wit, sharp sense of humour and infectious laugh. He held onto those traits until the very end. Despite how poorly he was feeling, John smiled through the pain, made his family laugh and was known as the 'funny guy' by the hospital staff. The strength, dignity and humour with which he handled his illness will always serve as an inspiration to his family and we will be forever proud of him for that. His spirit will always be alive within us. In his own words, "Remember me for loving you". Special thanks to the entire staff of the 4th floor of the Welland Hospital for their warm, compassionate care. The family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL; 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Sunday, September 23rd from 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 pm. Vigil prayers will take place at 3pm on Sunday in the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Star of the Sea Church, 34 Elgin Street, Port Dalhousie on Monday, September 24th at 11am. Cremation to follow. Memorial donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
