Obituary of Elinor Ruth Croft
CROFT, Elinor
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of “Miss Ellie” on Saturday, December 8, 2018. She said her 90th birthday celebration, on October 24, 2018 was her best birthday ever, enjoying her day with her loving husband of 69 years, Ken Croft, her four children Karen (Bob), Barb (Ed), Susan (Joe) and Barry (Sandy), 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Mom and Dad built and moved into their Port Dalhousie home in 1955. When Dad retired in 1982 they travelled through Canada and the US in their Airstream (Silver Bullet). After fulfilling their adventurous dreams, they decided to spend summers in Peterborough and winters in Venice, Florida.
One of Mom’s great achievements, other than raising 4 children, was winning the Florida Badminton Nationals in 1999. She was very proud to talk about her 16 Gold medals she had won over the years.
Mom loved boating and fishing. She kept nagging Dad to get a bigger boat and when he did, she named it “FINE ELLIE”. It was in this boat that she caught a 42” Muskie which she had stuffed and mounted, often bragging it was bigger than Dad’s.
For 35 years, Mom loved spending her winters in Florida, enjoying happy hour and a good game of cards with all her Venice Ranch friends. Always happy when any of our family invaded and took over their home for “OUR” vacations.
In accordance to Elinor’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements are entrusted to the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, (905) 937-4444. A private family visitation will take place. In the spring, a private family inurnment will take place at St. John’s Anglican Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Walker Family Cancer Centre.
