Obituary of Sophie Spiewak
Spiewak, Sophie - On Christmas Day, Sunday December 25, 2011 surrounded by her family, she went home to be with her husband Walter at the age of 91. Predeceased by her husband Walter of 40 years. Cherished and loving mother to Sophie (Jim) Dell and Mario (Susan). Devoted and loving Babcia to Patricia (Paul) Dell, Eric Dell, Melissa (Chris) Bennett, Rachel and Shawn. Proud Babcia of great grandsons Ayden and Kalan Hillis-Spiewak. Survived by her sister in France, dedicated niece Annette Koturbasz, along with Annette's son Richard (Mariola) and great-great nephew Michael. Sophie immigrated from France in 1951 with her family. Sophie spent her life raising the children and grandchildren on the family farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake. She had a passion for gardening and knitting, and enjoyed her weekly visits to the Fairview Mall and Swiss Chalet. A sincere and grateful thanks to Dr. Lee at the St. Catharines General Hospital - Oncology Department.
Family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street on Friday between 2-4 and 7-9pm. As per Sophie's wishes, Rosary will be said in the funeral home at 2:30pm. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday at 10am at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 73 Picton Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake. Burial will follow the mass at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or Charity of One's Choice in Sophie's memory.
