Obituary of Betty Fisher
Peacefully, and surrounded by family, Betty passed away on January 1, 2019 at the age of 92. Predeceased by her husband Tom (2011). Much loved and admired Mother of Gillian Garbutt, David (Tanis) Fisher and Brian (Michele) Fisher. Cherished Grandma/Nano/Nana of Kyle (Kayla) Garbutt, Elyse (Tim) Burke, Marni, Kelsi, Robbie and Davy Fisher, Marcus, Michael and Aidan Fisher. Especially loved great Nano of Tinsley Rose Garbutt.
Mom never stopped being there for her family. Whether it was taking in a grandchild as a roommate, or dropping everything to watch the kids, to her it meant valuable time with her little treasures. It never failed to amaze, how on a moment’s notice, Mom could have her signature and family famous vanilla cake or blueberry stuff, readily available. Both were always highly sought after, and go to choices at family meals.
Until the end, the mention of her grandchildren brought a smile to her face, and warmed her heart. From an early age, it was a rite of passage to have Nana/Nano take a Garbutt or Fisher grandchild North to visit the Kenora Fishers. Keeping the clan connected. Attending more lacrosse, soccer, rowing, and hockey events than most, she truly enjoyed being nearby, and felt joy from their participation. She was so proud of their many and varied accomplishments. Never shy to share her grandmother opinion, it made her so happy to hear near the end in the hospital, that her encouragement had finally stuck, when told of Mike and Holly’s engagement over, and over, and over again.
The family wishes to thank Staff and Care Givers at Martindale Gardens Retirement Residence, and Milton District Hospital for their loving care.
At Betty’s request, cremation has taken place.Family and friends are welcome on Saturday Feb 16th from 11am – 12pm at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St. St. Catharines, with a Service at noon in the chapel.
