WALSTRA, Helen
In sadness we announce the passing of Helen Marie Walstra on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the NHS-St Catharines Site. Helen is survived by her beloved grandson Liam North and predeceased by her daughter, Jamie Elizabeth Dobson (2013). She will be sadly missed by her sisters Marjorie Secord and Dorothy (Ed) Sloper of St Catharines, many nieces, nephews and her wonderful friends and neighbours known as “Team Helen”. Helen was predeceased by her parents, William and Emily Grant, her brother William and sisters Ethel Newhouse and Irma Schaefer. Liam would like to thank Bill Walstra, Helen’s friend and confidant as well as Joanne Bakker for their support over the past few weeks. Helen was born and raised in St. Catharines and worked for many years as a cashier at the Welland Ave. A&P. She volunteered countless hours with the Henley Helpers for the Henley Regattas. She loved her flowers and gardening and adored her only grandson Liam. In accordance with Helen’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 12-1 p.m. with a Celebration of Life to be held at 1 p.m. If so desired, donations may be made in Helen’s memory to Pathstone Mental Health or The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
