Obituary of Mervyn "Merv" James Cripps
CRIPPS, Mervyn James
Passed away peacefully on Friday, March 22, 2019 at the age of 80. Merv is now reunited with the love of his life, Jacqueline Taggart (Nov. 22, 2002). He is survived by his two children, Abidel (Darlene) and Mark; four granddaughters, Arlee (Seth), Amanda (Chad), Alyssa (Jeff) and Emilee (Greg); and five great grandchildren, Celydia, Wesley, Myliah, Jace and Alivia. He will be missed by Cyndy and other extended family members. Predeceased by his parents, John Alfred Cripps of Noranda, PQ and his widow Margaret (Peggy) Cripps of St. Catharines. He had been active in the Scouting movement, in the National Campers and Hikers Association and because of his interest in things historical he sat on the board of the St. Catharines museum for two terms. He retired from the St. Catharines Standard after almost 40 years in the composing room. Cremation has taken place. Merv has requested there be no funeral service. His family will have a private service at a later date when his ashes will be interred in the family plot in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Warehouse of Hope or to Community Care Niagara.
