I will miss my new friend tremendously. I was looking to spend time with him to share common interest we had, including Toronto Rotary Club where I was one of the first female members.
Kathy and family I share your loss.

I knew John for nearly 40 years. We worked together, travelled together, dined and drank together and told tall tales to each other. I can’t say I was a close friend (being one of those not-to-be-trusted liberals), but I greatly admired John’s kindness, his ability to get along with people and his ever-present sense of humour. I think the last two times I saw John was a lunch at the Mermaid, and a chance encounter with him and Kathy at the Y—both years ago. A day always felt better with a dose of John. St. Catharines is poorer for his loss. Much love at this time to Kathy and the family, Paul

What can I say about John!! He always had a great sense of humour, always had a listening ear and would come up with solutions. I have been honoured to have a few of my paintings hanging on the Currey's walls. He would come down to my unit and say 'well can I take it up now'. Everyone here at Grenadier will miss him so very much.
Kathy and family know that he will always be in your hearts and that will be a comfort in time to come.
So sorry

John was a fellow Board member at the YMCA. He could always be counted on to speak his mind and was a catalyst for fund raising involvement and generous himself. Great sense of humour!
My family always saw John and Kathy at Star of the Sea Church when we attended there. He was quite observant of our young sons and what they noticed in church. He was quick to report on their facial expressions and the like after the service. Kathy would also update me then on recent literature she had read.
John set up a tour of the Boreal Labs ‘back area’ where our family observed the processing of animals for lab work and excitingly, having Andrew and Marcus ‘try out’ the Venus Fly Trap’! Quite memorable.
Our family still makes John’s famous ‘beef on a bun’ recipe for the Super Bowl and other family gatherings.
Great memories and a great man! Our family’s condolences to Kathy and the family.

To John’s Family:
Just wanted to send a brief note expressing my condolences. I came to know John through local politics. He was very committed to our community and country. I thought of him often after leaving local government and will likely always remember his devotion. He will be missed but he will not be forgotten. Some people we meet in our lifetime leave an impression that lasts a very long time. Such is the case with John. I am sorry for your loss and the loss to our community with his passing.

Kathy and the Currie Family,
We offer our condolence and heartfelt sympathy at this time. In many ways, John was larger than life. He was always so interesting to talk to...about almost anything (including politics)...and he had such a tremendous wit and sense of humour. Most importantly, he was a special friend and neighbour to the Bonomi family. John’s devotion to the Catholic faith has no doubt served him well upon his death. The wonderful memories that you have of John will help you through this difficult time. You can truly celebrate a life well lived.
God Bless,
Mike Yola Frances Matt

John lived his faith. In 2016, he helped our church welcome a young Syrian family. He was generous with his time and helped them find employment and furnish their home. If I had known about his Boreal connection, we might have chatted about science but instead we talked and acted upon our Catholic Faith. May a legion of angels welcome you into your eternal home.
