Bernard passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2019 at the age of 96 in St. Catharines, Ontario. He is survived by his beloved wife Yvette, of 68 years. He is survived by his children, Bernard (Angèle Seguin), Monique, Rachel and Robert (Manon Bertrand), grand children Annie (Marilyn), Sara (Jean-Simon), Marc (Brad), Michelle (Morgan), Bryan (Stephanie), Jean-Pierre, Dr. Geneviève Bois, Romain and Laurent and great grand child Alicia. Bernard was born in Gentilly, Qc, son of Arthur Baril and Rachel Poisson. He graduated from the University of Montréal as a Chemist, in 1948. He then joined the QNS Paper Company at Baie Comeau, till 1972, when he was transferred to the head office of Ontario Paper in St. Catharines. During his forty years of service with QNS and Ontario Paper, he occupied the positions of Mill Manager, Vice President Engineering and Research, Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs. His public life saw him serving as School Commissioner, Town Councillor and Chair of the Hotel-Dieu Hospital at Baie Comeau. He was Chair of the Technical Section of the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association in 1978-79 and served on the Board of Governors of Niagara College from 1989 to 1995 and as Chair of the Board in 1993-95. He also served as a volunteer at the Linhaven Home for the Aged from 1989 until his death. In his spare time, Bernard enjoyed reading, walking, golfing, painting and woodwork. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Foundation One – St. Catharines Hospital would be appreciated. We wish to thank the great doctor Jeremy Child (who is our family doctor for over 30 years), and also thank the outstanding care received at the Niagara Health Service St. Catharines Hospital. We would like to thank Father Benjamin Weber of the St. Denis Parish for his love and support of Bernard and his family.
