I am a friend of Pete's Tiger-Cat linemate John Barrow. Before John passed he told me that if he was ever going into battle and had to choose one man to accompany him it would be Pete Neuman.
I thought you might enjoy hearing this in tribute.

To my nieces and nephews..Nancy, Chris, Denise ,Jim,and Peter:
So sad to hear about your Dad’s passing and so sad that I can’t be with you on the 25th. Your Dad was a great guy and a great brother in law to me. I have many fond memories of my time with Pete and with the Neumann family.
One memory that stands out is watching Tiger Cat Games with Pete’s Dad who had a thing about Bernie Faloney .
One minute Bernie was a bum and should be gotten rid of, the next minute he would throw a touchdown pass and now he is the best quarterback in the CFL.
I will be thinking of you on the 25th. Uncle Vince

Pete Neumann – RIP My Friend:
On January 1st we lost a very good man. Children lost a great Dad, Grandchildren lost a tremendous Grandpa, the Hamilton Tiger Cat Alumni lost a terrific football player and I lost a friend. Pete Neumann was a man of principles, values, hard work and big hands. I had the honor of being associated with Pete on The Hamilton Tiger Cat Football Team from 1958 – 1964 and I can tell you first hand he was a damn good ball player and an even better human being. Pete may not have been the biggest player on the field nor was he the fastest but, he certainly was the most intelligent. Tobin Rote (ex Toronto Argonaut Quarterback) said that Pete was the smartest ball player he ever played against because he was always in position to make a play. That intelligence and play making ability also prompted Pete’s teammate the late great John Barrow to say that Pete was the greatest defensive end he had played with or against. Pete emulated what football players ought to be on and off the field. During the football season he came to practice and a game to play football. Pete did his job and went home to his family and friends, low maintenance person off the field all the time. That is why coaches loved him and he played his entire career with the Tiger Cats. Despite all of his awards and accolades (9 time Eastern Conference All Star, 3 time Grey Cup Champion, CFL Hall of Famer and Tiger Cat Wall of Honor Inductee), just to name a few; Pete was a regular guy who always had time for other people. Pete introduced me to entrepreneurialism in the late 50’s / early 60’s when he would pay me $ 2 to pack extra tape in his equipment bag for a road trip and another $ 1 to clean and shine his cleats before a game. Three dollars may not sound like a lot of money but, to a ten year old ball boy, it was a fortune. Soon, eight other players were doing the same and before I knew it, I was making more money than my Dad and he was working full time. Peter coined the phrase in the dressing room; “When the going gets tough – the tough get going” and he held all of the players to that standard. Loving the game of football, Pete would also advise coach Sazio on defensive alignments and coach Sazio would listen to him and use his advice to the success of the team. Pete is playing ball now in heaven captaining a team with other recent passing alumni; Billy Ray Locklin, Ed Chalupka, Bill Danychuck and Bill Graham. Save us a place my friend; we will all see each other eventually.
RIP Pete……….RIP
