Gail and I met when she helped me find the origin of my grandmother and great aunt Susan and Emily Smith who came to Canada with the Maria Rye organization. We soon learned that we shared several of the same interests and she became a good friend even though we never met face to face. The world was a better place because of Gail and she will be missed. My deepest sympathy goes out to the family.

Dear Gail - my lovely, happy and clever friend for 25 years. Dedicated to genealogical research, she was a wonderful person who gave so much of her time and energy to helping others with their family trees. She found the data that showed who my father was and also his mother who gave birth to him in a workhouse. We shared the first week of my honeymoon in Ontario and she came to see us in England too. We both enjoyed the graveyard searches in Sussex, England for her Collins rellies.
The Maxine cartoons that she sent became a favourite, gave me a giggle and now adorn my kitchen cupboards. She and i became FFs - Forever Friends. I am so glad to have known her; there will now be a Gail shaped hole in my life.
Sincere condolences to Jody, Warren and Dean - God bless.
Valerie

Thanks to Gail's ingenuity and hard work, the British Home Child Quilt shone a light on our home child ancestors, including my grandfather. She was a generous, dedicated genealogical researcher, volunteer and all around great gal. Miss you Gail.

I am so saddened to learn of Gail's passing. She did so much to help many people learn more about the British Home Children. She helped me to be able to add squares to the memorial quilt that honoured two of my ancestors . Gail had extensive knowledge on this important part of our Canadian history, and was eager to share that information with others. Her efforts will be appreciated by all those Canadians who have been able to learn more about their ancestry.
As a retired educator with the District School Board of Niagara, I appreciated the hard work Gail did as a secretary with the Board. She performed a valuable role in keeping schools running smoothly and working effectively with students, parents, teachers and administrators.
