Aunt Connie was, hands down, the coolest Aunt ever! I remember running over to Oma and Opa’s house after school one Hallowe’en afternoon, perhaps in ‘64. Both my mom and Connie were there when I arrived and Aunt Connie gave me a tube of red lipstick to wear for trick or treating. I mean, how awesome is that?! That is the very first memory I have of her and that memory is still crystal clear in my mind. I admired her greatly, and was extremely proud that I could tell people she was part of my family. Her earlobes were the very first pierced ears I’d ever seen (everyone else wore clip ons), as was the beautiful gold charm bracelet she often wore when visiting; I loved hearing the clinking sound of the charms as they brushed against each other when she motioned with her hands. Aunt Connie brought with her a refreshing breath of cosmopolitan flair to a tightly knit family of sheltered Mennonites. Connie will be lovingly remembered. My deepest condolences. Bless you all, Uncle Nick, Henry, Monica, and Rick.
