It has been my pleasure to know Mrs. Vervoort over many years. She was a strong and resolute lady and stuck up for her family and what she believed in. She raised a remarkable quartet of children and was extremely influential in the education and care of her grandchildren.
I looked up to both Mr. and Mrs. Vervoort in part because I admired their decision to immigrate to Canada -- with three children in tow -- and strive in every way possible to establish a home, make honest livings and contribute to the human landscape of our country. We all benefit from people like them who join us in making our communities better. They did it with a zeal in their hearts and smiles on their faces.
I send sympathies to the entire family on this funeral day. Stay fast as brother, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins over your lifetimes and pass along the values you have been taught. Mr. and Mrs. Vervoort will be proud of you even unto the furthest generation.
They did their best. So must we.
