Thank you Daddy for everything you have done for us. Amidst all the sorrow we have experienced with your passing, we also experienced the most love and compassion from all who grieved with us. This time will be treasured in my heart forever - although very sad, I believe I am at peace with your leaving. You are in a better place - free of pain and suffering. I remember our singing of Silent Night every Christmas Eve - we did it in harmony. This is why I chose 'Sleep in Heavenly Peace' as your epitaph. I remember one midnight mass in particular when it started to snow after we left the church and we started to sing 'Silent Night' together. I will never forget that my dearest Daddy. We will miss you greatly but you will always be a part of us.
Love always, your daughter, Klarika along with Rob (Robbie), Rachael (mademoiselle de Paris) and Alex (your favorite grandson)

Milan Slamka was a kind and gentle man who loved his family deeply. He was also both a passionate teacher, and an educator, who spoke many languages....fluently. At family gatherings, he would pick a word out of a conversation, and tell you it's meaning and origin. Or, he would give a history lesson on the events of the day, just about anywhere in the world. It was an absolute joy to sit near him at family events. Milan was also a deeply religious man, living his faith every day of his life. A huge loss in our family. We will miss him greatly.
Love
Kevin & Renate Hodges.

My dad, Milan was a train conductor in Slovakia so these words are especially relevant to the way we try to live our lives:
When we are born, we get on the train where we meet our parents.
We think they will travel with us forever.
However, they get off at a certain station and we will be left alone...
Over time, others approach the train.
They are important, they are friends, acquaintances, our children, the love of our lives.
Many of them will step off and their seats will remain empty.
Others will be so discreet that we won't notice they left their seats.
This train journey is full of joy, sadness, expectations, happiness and goodbyes.
The success of this journey is about a good relationship with all passengers, assuming we give our best, the best of us.
We don't know which station this journey will end at, so let's be happy, love, forgive.
It's important to live like this because when we get off the train we leave memories for those who continue their journey.
So let only beautiful memories remain after us.
Let's be happy for what we have and thank each day that our journey continues…
