Dear Michelle, David, Danny & Donna,
Be assured that so many loving thoughts are with you in this time of sorrow.
Your father was a blessing to all of his family.
I'm very grateful for the many years of him organizing the Gauvreau Family Reunion in addition to hosting numerous gatherings at Johnny's Camp which created countless happy and fun memories of us all together.
It was a most enjoyable experience the time I spent working with him at the cottages. It was such a delight to be around his jovial company. Remembering his wonderful and gentle soul will forever remain in my heart.
Losing someone we love is not easy, I pray that you will find peace and comfort during this difficult time.
May God bless you and keep you in His care.
Sincerely with love aunt Gilberte Gagne

Michelle, Dan & Donna, Dave and all your children,
Sending my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your Dad, he was an amazing father and grandfather to each one of you, a true family man. Wishing everyone love and strength at this sad time of losing him, he was also so very precious to us all.
I was touched when I was no longer living at home and I started receiving my own Christmas card from Uncle Al & Aunt Helen which continued throughout the years, I still have them today.
He was such a genuine caring person, his softness and good-humored nature were only a few of his qualities.
He was a remarkable example of human goodness and how fortunate I was to have been at the receiving end of his sweetness whenever in his company. He had this gift of making you feel special and I hold many memories of his exceptional personality and his loving ways.
Uncle Al you were a wonderful uncle,
where your spirit never grew old;
your smile was made of sunshine,
and your heart was solid gold.
Sincerely with love Joelle

Michelle, Dave, Danny & Families,
We send to you and all your families our sympathy on the passing of your father, grandfather our “Uncle Al.”
For as long as we can remember, we knew him as ‘Uncle Al’. Then later in life he was referred to as Roger.
Irregardless of the name used over the years, he remained a ‘good and honourable man to his own family and to his
brothers & sisters and their children. Always happy, always smiling and always ready to sing and dance to keep the
“Good times going.”
One cannot think of Uncle Al without also thinking of his loving partner and wife, Helen. Theirs was a special
partnership built upon mutual love and respect for each other. They both enjoyed music and entertained on many
occasions over the years with their singing. Some will recall many, many years ago with Uncle Al leading the singing
of Kaw-Liga (“Poor old Kaw-Liga” ) and then Helen and all the ‘old gang’ joining in with singing. (Aside: Kaw-Liga was
written by Hank Williams Sr. & Fred Rose in 1952. The song comes from a wooden statue of a legendary Native
America, Kaw-Liga.
Many will also remember Al & Helen leading a family sing-a-long of the ‘French Song” , ( Quand
Le Soleil Dit Bonjour Aux Montagnes ). (Another aside: This song was made famous when recorded by Lucille Starr in
1965.)
Music was so magical for both Al and Helen, but quite frankly, when someone mentions “Al and Helen”, there is one particular song that starts playing in my mind, “Butterflies”. Truly it was their ‘signature song’ and we could all hear the perfect harmony
as they sang together. ( Final aside: Butterflies was written by bob Merrill and recorded by Patti Page in 1953.)
In closing with some of our vivid memories of Al (and Helen), we leave you with some of the lyrics of “ Butterflies. “
We are sure you will see and hear Al and Helen singing this song together again from Heaven.
Butterflies:
Darling, why do I get butterflies
Every time I’m kissing you?
When you hold me tight and close your eyes,
Do you get the butterflies too?
Do the stars go whirlin’ round and round
When we’re all alone, we two?
Does your heart go floating off the ground,
Flying just like the butterflies do?
Butterflies red, butterflies blue,
Oh, how they flutter up and butter up my view !
I picture rings, wedding and things,
I hear an organ play and someone say “ I do !”
Vows resterez toujours avec nous tous, mon Oncle Al et ma Tante Helen

We (the ball hockey boys) got to know Roger pretty well through several ball hockey training camps held at the Gauvreau fishing site (re Johnny’s camp). He proved to be a gracious and cordial host who enjoyed having with us a few beers, fabulous steak and ‘taters dinners, and partaking in general jocularities.
In other words, he fit right in.
Here’s an interesting anecdote that says a lot about the man: When I attempted to regale him with the wondrous accomplishment of my 15 goal game (a record that continues to stand the test of time) after listening intently, he paused for a second, then said: “I’m guessing the goalie was crap and my Danny was your centreman…”
An astute man that Roger!

To my papa,
Thank you for everything you have taught me and being my best friend. You’ve always been by my side and always knew how to make the best of times with your beautiful personality. I will never forgot the days coming to your house after school and sharing a bowl of air popped popcorn with you. You’ve taught me to enjoy the little things in life and to live it to the fullest. I am going to miss your sense of humour, your smile, and creating more memories together. Playing poker and being up north won’t be the same without you. I love you papa and I will always be grateful to have had you in my life. Rest In Peace❤️

To my hero, my Dad. I would like to thank him for all the little things he did so well. My Dad wasn't flashy, he was steady and reliable. He went to work every day and came home to us, it is not flashy but that wasnt his style. I made a list trying to figure out what makes a regular good man , a great man. It is not one thing but a collection of moments , thoughts and actions , all of them small but sum them up and you have , great.
My Dad was not a good soccer player, he wore steel toe shoes, and made kids afraid to come near him, but he was a great
coach. He did love to toe bash the ball into the net. Rain or shine he was coaching. My Dad was a very good handy man, and could fix a lot of stuff with things you probably wouldn't consider as tools. He was not however, very could a buying good tools and eventually every screwdriver turned into a chisel.
My Dad grew up without a lot of money, so he had trouble throwing things out ,because , just maybe someday he was gonna need that half broken toilet seat but was generous with friends and family. He did what you were suppose to do, when your a good man ,a good husband and a good father. Anyone can be great in a moment an instant , but to be so good all your life ,well that is something to admire. Dad you were great, David

My uncle, the most loving. That smile. The good times. All the things you taught me as a kid...How to fish and be patient or catch minnows, how to start a fire, how to play 45, the pocket money to go to Sheppard’s to get an ice cream or candy or to play Crown and Anchor at the picnic, the truck rides to North Bay listening to western, the one who taught me to throw a baseball and especially how to off-track bet at the age of 12! The only one who never minded getting a volleyball net or a ball blown up with air. The one who was always happy to have us around as kids and built a floating dock for us to enjoy for years. The one who always made sure there was a greeting sign as we entered Johnny’s Camp. Love you so much and thank you for all those wonderful memories. I will cherish them forever. Nathalie Boivin

My dear Papa, thank you for everything. What I would do to sing “you are my sunshine” with you one more time or have a very intense round of pool where you would let me win. Play one more round of cribbage or make one more batch of popcorn with a TON of salt. Make some ginger bread cookies because you said it will keep us from getting sick as we always had to pair it with a ginger ale. Most importantly, keeping my secret when I told my mom i was too sick to go to school even though I just wanted to hangout with you for the day. Although you have passed, the memories you have created over the course of your life with so many people demonstrates your spirit will truly never leave. The unconditional love, care and laughter you brought everyone will always be the type of person I wish to aspire to be like, even though I am lucky if I can amount to half the beautiful person you were. Thank you for passing on your soul by raising the strongest, most loving and kind person I know who I am thankful to call my mom. I know you are smiling down on all of us feeling proud of the life’s you left on Earth that got the opportunity to know what true love felt like because they had the chance to know you. May your soul Rest In Peace and finally be reunited with your soulmate. I just know you two are already singing together.
I love you papa xoxo

There are so many things I could say about my dad as the memories play in my head.I will miss his big beautiful smile and the warmth of holding his hand as we would skip into the casino to play a little poker. The way he would shine his boots when I said we were going out.His eagerness to be a part of everything and willingness to go out of his way for anyone. The way he used to get his pants hemmed too short and leave the cardboard in his hat so he would look taller. The way he looked at my children with such adoration and love. How honoured I was when people realized I was his daughter they would say'He was the kindest man they ever met'How he would inhale deeply when his order of hot chicken wings would arrive and say'Mich...we're in for a treat!'
The sparkle in his eye when he would call me his baby girl and
the countless lessons he taught me life including how to love with your whole heart.Dad always inspired me to take the high road and to always'leave others feeling better than when you found them'He was a gift to this world and I was truly blessed
to be his girl.I will miss my bestfriend everyday of my life.Until we meet again Dad❤❤❤

Just a small sample of things that will always make me smile and think of dad:
watching the Habs, sharing a stick of gum which we did before every one of my hockey games, playing euchre or pass the ace
crazy wild van rides to the Moe-Zee-On Inn, playing beach volleyball in the mud, the Las Vegas Flamingo, any old dude that feels the need to go shirtless to catch the sun, the sound of someone whistling, any toothpick, a beige cap, a beige jacket, beige pants.....heck anything beige! Brylcream, any boxing match, horse races, Kenny Rogers "The Gambler", dice game Left Right and Center, quotes like "the kid from Sudbury" and “You can’t fly on one wing”.....and finally...
anyone amazing that is able to instantly share laughter and joy ; and instantly make everyone feel special and loved. Love Danny
