Obituary of Luigi Silvestri
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Luigi Silvestri on February 20th, 2021 at GNHS in St.Catharines. Luigi will join his loving wife Giovanna (1998), beloved son John (1980), sister Pina Basile(Nino) and many other loving family members and friends in heaven. Luigi is survived by his beloved daughter Elizabeth Mosher(Craig), his sisters Anna Allegritti (Italy), Frances Ranalli, Gianna Grenke(Otto) and brother Oreste(Rusty) Silvestri. He is also survived by his grandchildren Michael Mosher(Nicole), Mark Mosher(Stacey), great grandchildren Jaxon and Cruz Mosher as well as many nieces and nephews in both Canada and his native Italy. Luigi was born in Civitella Roveto P.Aquila, Italy on June 15th,1925 and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1952. He settled in Innisfil, ON before moving to St.Catharines. He was employed at provincial paper in Thorold for 32 years and was one of the fortunate few who was retired longer than he worked. He was well known in Merritton and Thorold. Always eager To help a friend or a family member. He would dig and maintain gardens, cut down trees, or pour concrete driveways. No job was too big or small. He was a long time past member of Canadian Corps unit #44 and Royal Canadian Legion branch #138. Luigi was a self-taught, intelligent man who always found a solution to any situation. Luigi’s love of family and friends was unbounded. Sunday feasts of food and drink made Louie his happiest. His huge garden fed family, friends and neighbours. He was a wine, sausage and prosciutto maker extraordinaire (delivery included). If you asked him where he found his mushrooms you would still be there looking. Luigi will always be remembered for his generosity but above all, a well-mannered, well-respected gentleman who loved and was dearly loved and will never be forgotten. We love you Pa. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Linhaven, especially the Lincoln unit. Also, the compassionate staff of the Greater Niagara Hospital in St.Catharines.
