It was such a pleasure to get to know John through his volunteer work at Hospice. I was lucky enough to get to share the lunch table with him and so enjoyed his wonderful wit and saw first-hand his heartfelt compassion. We all loved hearing his travel stories and marveled at his gusto for life. I will surely miss him and send deepest condolences to Sandra and his family.
With comforting hugs from Rosie Hale

We will always remember lovely John our dear neighbour with the fondest of thoughts. John has known us and our son Jack since he was a baby and he is now 15. John always stopped to chat with Jack and see what he was up to, how things were going, give him words of wisdom and cheer him on in his school and sports. I think he might have even taken a couple of basketball shots with him too! :-) the whole street will miss John I’m sure of it, he was so positive and friendly. May he rest in peace now. Lots of thoughts and prayers to Sandra and family. Mirella, Remo and Jack Colantoni. xo

My sincere condolences to Mr. Sitak's family. I've known him for many years as he often refereed our highschool league volleyball games. He went out of his way to teach the kids the rules of the game and always called it fair. He taught me so much about the game but also how to help kids enjoy it even more. The kids truly respected his knowledge and example as did the coaches. I'm so sad to hear of his passing and wish you all peace during this difficult time. Mr. Sitak was a true gem- every single conversation resulted in a laugh or a smile. God bless you.

John’s Family
Our hearts are broken for You All. John was such a special man. He was a referee at our mixed volleyball league in Port Colborne. Always a smile or a funny comment. We loved Him and we were always happy to see Him. Heaven definitely has gained a special angel. He touched everyone He met and will always have a special place in our hearts. Sending You our deepest condolences.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of John's passing. John and I worked together as a team ( our classrooms were across the hall from each other) at Ferndale School from 1968-1992. John as the "shop" teacher and I as the " home economics teacher. He was a wonderful team player and partner as we shared the classes that were sent to us from the feeder schools as well as the Ferndale students. As a young beginning teacher I learned alot of valuable teaching skills from John. He was a big help to me as I recall the numerous iron cords and plugs he replaced, including the many electrical items such as foot pedals on sewing machines. He was amazingly talented, not only in his woodworking skills, but also he was able to debone a turkey for a staff luncheon. He had apparently worked in a butcher shop as a youngster. John was a staff member that many teachers called upon to "fix" something that had come apart or was broken in their classroom. He never complained and the item would be sent back to the classroom all repaired quickly. In 1974, both John & I decided that we would like to introduce our programs to both boys and girls. We designed curriculum and tried a pilot project which was well received by the students, Board and MInistry. We were thrilled to see how successful the program was and thus was born Design Technology and Family Studies.
I recall how John built fibreglass canoes, having set them up in the hallway between our clasrooms.
We shared so many conversations about our families and John was a dad who was so pround of his boys. He told me about each and every success in school and sports that Tom & Joel participated in, as well as the successes in their careers.
There are so many stories I could share as I look back on 24 years of teaching together, but I will end by saying my respect for John Sitak and the ideals he upheld as a teacher and an individual will always be treasured. He was a gentleman in every respect along with being a talented craftsperson. The last conversation we had was John asking me about a trip he was planning to Newfoundland. I hope he was able to do that trip.
Gone too soon, but not forgotten. Rest in Peace dear friend.

Andy and I send our sincere sympathy to Sandra and her family who will miss John so much. We did not know him, but knew he made our dear friend, Sandra so happy in their marriage. Theirs was a true romance. Throughout their lives together and when talking to Sandra, I could see the light in her eyes when she spoke of him. They loved each other, were best friends to each other and had a beautiful life together. His memory will be part of those who knew him forever.

I remember Mr Sitak from Gr 7 and 8, 1990 to 92 at Ferndale. He was an amazing teacher, I always looked forward to his class. To this day I use the skills he taught me and I show my kids these skills. The clock I made in Gr 8 I still have. Many wonderful memories in his class, he was so genuine and you don't get that much now. RIP Mr Sitak and my condolences to the family!

My sincere condolences to you and your family. I worked with John for 8 years at Ferndale Public School. John’s program was wonderful. The students, under his careful guidance, learned many life long skills. He often took a student who was experiencing difficulty under his wing and helped them feel better about themselves. When I asked him to build me an extension onto the stage for the musical Cosmic Pinball he completed the project ensuring it’s safety. Having that extra space to hold the Pinball Machine was really special. He always did that little extra beyond the call of duty. He loved what he did and I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with him.
