Obituary of Alan Panter
In celebration of a life filled with love, we are saddened to announce the passing of Alan Panter on May 15th, 2021 in his 78th year. Beloved wife of over 50 years to Carol Anne (nee Evans). Devoted father to Diana Huson (Todd), David Panter (Mireille). Proud grandfather of Natasha Panter (Johnathan), Chloe Bilodeau, and Jasmine Bilodeau. Alan was a special “Doggy Father” to Charlie (Prince & Duke deceased).
Alan was born and raised in Etobicoke. He had an early career as a lifeguard with the Toronto Harbour Police before joining the Royal Canadian Armed Forces, Artillery Reserve Division. He was a proud member of the 7th Toronto Regiment, rising to the rank of Warrant Officer. He had cherished memories of the armouries during his 10 years of service, working with gun crews and firing artillery shells.
After meeting the love of his life, Carol Anne, the couple moved to St. Catharines and started a family. He worked as an electronic technician with CN-CP for 42 years prior to retiring. He had an impeccable work ethic, only missing a half day of work his entire career. He also volunteered at Cornerstone Clubhouse in London Ontario helping individuals with brain injuries learn how to use computers. The family also hosted Brock international students, where Alan attentively helped them learn English, with homework and to provide a Canadian family experience.
An avid history buff, Alan was a “foodie”, loved animals and computers. Often armed with a spatula at the barbecue, he was often the cook and loved family gatherings. He had a veracious appetite and sweet tooth, happily whipping up a pot of chilli or finishing off the leftovers. The only thing bigger than his love of food, was his booming and infectious laugh that often caused everyone to laugh along with him.
Alan was a gentle giant. He had a passion and unwavering dedication to his family. Becoming a father and grandfather brought him great joy. He attended every birthday party, coached our baseball teams with Merritton Athletics, and happily volunteered as the family “Uber” driver for his children, grandchildren, and all their friends. He never missed a single family moment. Alan was fun, kind-hearted and generous. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will forever be missed.
In keeping with Alan's wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to the current Covid restrictions, a private Celebration of Life will take place at the George Darte Funeral Home on Friday, May 21, 2021.
