KOSSILOS, Athanase “Tom”
It is with heavy hearts that the Kossilos family announces the unexpected passing of Athanase “Tom” on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at the age of 68. Beloved husband of 38 years to Gina. Devoted father to Marie Kossilos and Constantine Kossilos. Much loved brother to Ourania, Nick, Elia and their families. Tom will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by his parents Konstantinos (1976) and Maria (2019).
Tom lived for his family. He devoted his entire life to his family and to his restaurant, The Blue Mermaid, which he opened with his brother in 1976. Most recently, Tom and Marie operated their salon Malia Hair Co. together. He will be remembered for his community involvement, his love for his dog Tootsie, and for the undeniable love he had for his family and friends.
Tom was the golden man, with the golden smile, with the most golden heart. “Who loves you baby!” Tom did, all of you.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for Tom, as well as the many patrons who supported the restaurant over the years.
Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Friday, July 23 from 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.
Via the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada’s direction, the Funeral Service for Tom will be held at St. Katharine Greek Orthodox Church, 585 Niagara St, St. Catharines, on Saturday, July 24 at 11 a.m.
In keeping with Tom’s expressed wishes, cremation will follow the funeral. Eventually, to honour his request to go home, he will return to his home town of Karditsa Bragiana, Greece.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Katharine Greek Orthodox Church, Kidney Care Program (NHS – St. Catharines) or the Cardiology Unit (Hamilton General).
